Good morning, I was going through my coins again old and new. I have a few im curious about. I know the Ike dollar isn't worth much but the rim on this was so neat looking I thought I'd ask to see if any one can tell me how it happened?

The reeded edge was damaged. When it was damaged the metal was moved, making them look the way they do.

From the photos you posted, it's hard to tell if the coin received full reeding collar or was somehow raised a bit and missed part of it. Judging coins from photos, especially not very good ones, is really difficult, so if you want good response, post the best you can, FULL IMAGE, not fingernail please.

Unusual anomaly but nothing more according to your pic's.

I’m with Mountain Man. Looks like the planchet did not have full contact with the collar. May also have been damage on the collar.

Hmm, the obverse shows interesting striations, almost like an alloy mix problem. The reverse pic is fuzzy enough that I'm not sure if the pattern is blurred or doesn't exist. If they're the same on the reverse I would vote for an improper alloy mix. If not, then probably buffing of some sort...

I have no clue about the reeding... not even going to try to guess at that one. :)

    Thanks for sharing!

Edit: although it's clad, so I suppose the improper allow mix could exist on only one side. I'll vote improper alloy mix on the obverse. We'll see what the experts say.

No apology necessary. Thanks for the better pic's. I see an anomaly but nothing more at this point. Keep searching and posting, good luck.
