I'm hoping it will trade as a collectible and not with spot. Lots of variables though I would think.

Just look at how its trading right now - that is not likely to change, except to follow the spot price either up or down, in the next 5 to 10 years anyway.

The mint is currently selling these for $1,539. Sales supposedly will end on Dec. 31st. After that it is anyone's guess what the secondary market will do.
Those who bought them for the initial price of $1,189 must be thrilled.
I waited and had to pay $1,289 when I finally got mine. But I would hate to pay what the mint is charging now.

The U.S. Mint will have to reprice precious metals products again this week Wednesday or Thursday based on $1,100.00 to $1,149.99/oz. of gold. That would take the UHR currently selling on the Mint website for $1,539 down a bracket by $50 to $1,489 again.

Gold is currently @ $1,125.60/oz. with a (today, so far) Low: $1,118/oz. & High: $1,125.80

Since it wasn't specified, I suppose the OP is referring to their coin being in original Mint packaging, but if the OP has a TPG slabbed and graded coin in hand, then I would personally hold onto that coin longer in the hopes that others will trade in their UHR coins which didn't grade high or their raw coins for bullion/melt. I personally think that the discussion that this coin is bullion will contribute to some loss in the mintage over the short haul, especially given the large quantity minted. However, I look for this coin to be more of a collectible in the long run, especially if there are large numbers sent into the melting pot and the Mint ends UHR production in future, as no other plans currently seem imminent. Consider also that the 2010 palladium UHR hasn't come to fruition.

I believe all US bullion issues have a small numismatic premium (nowhere near what the Mint charges).
But I thought that if any of these issues would have more than a minimal numismatic premium it would be this issue.
For the moment I appear to be wrong.
But based upon my tremendous lack of knowledge of the potential of modern US bullion issues, I calmly sat back and bought NONE of them.
(Okay, I'm lying. I have some regular and proof ASE's.)

I still go with my opinion that the "ultra high relief gold double eagle" will see a more than modest premium, but I'm NOT going to put my money where my mouth is.

I would think they would hold a nice premium to spot as a 1 year beautiful type coin w a mintage of 125,000 or so. Look at the premiums the older proof eagles are still getting. I am debating on whether to pick one of these up in this last 2 weeks?
Interestingly, you see almost none for sale in the ads in coin world the last months or so.

I have to agree here. I tracked them pretty closely at work for a while. When we were still selling them that is.
In the beginning NGC MS70PL got really stupid money. NOW there are more 70PL than 69PL so certainly not a grade rarity unless you're looking for UNDER 69.

As I saw the values start to really drop on ebay I advised my boss to dump them and move on. He did, the store made money. We may have one on hand.

This is really a pattern we see a lot in modern bullion. Get in, ride the wave and get out.

To me it's just a one ounce hunk of gold.
