When I started collecting back in the Dark Ages, I bought a little book that let me simply put a check in a box for the grade I thought it was. That was all the information it allowed. Since then, I got a nice app that let me put a lot of helpful info into it, but it still had some limitations. I also had bought a program for my laptop, but it proved to be clunky. So now I'm looking at creating my own custom spreadsheet. How many of you have made your own spreadsheet for your coins?
Just written a crummy notebook is all I've gotten . There is a Program I've been wanting to try on another site .... I'l let ya know what the program is when I check it out .
If you want a plain front end database. Excel is just fine. Create your headings and fill in the rows. Right click on a cell and you can include additional info and a shortcut to an image or images. This appears when you hover the mouse pointer over the cell. If you want a relational database where you can group and sort by query tables then Access is required, but it is a steeper learning curve.
Same as above. There are a couple of coin inventory spreadsheets online that are free, and you can modify them to your liking. That's where I started.
I started out with Lotus123 then moved that to Excel where it sits currently. The main file resides on my desktop computer and I email it to my self so I can have a current copy on my iPad and phone.
And you're not going to share? Shame on you. LOL Like many others, I have a self designed Excel spreadsheet.
Excel spreadsheet. You can customize and change however and whenever you want. Mine is shown for a portion of my Capped Bust Half Dimes. The Comment column is as long as you want to make it and can contain whatever information that doesn't fit the defined column categories. Each of my collections is a separate page in one Excel file so everything is in one place. Each page is customized to that particular collection.
I made a spreadsheet with a whole bunch of coins in it. Around 1500 have been put in so far. Although, it will take forever to finish it. I have thousands of coins.
You guys are making me feel horribly disorganized. And that doesn’t suit my nitpicky standards very well.
Yes, I'm looking to make my own spreadsheet, but I'm also going to look at the ones I found online. I don't have Excel but I do have Open Office, but I might find MS Works spreadsheet easier to work with. What columns do you have?
Actually, the name of the app is Coin Collection. I used it on my Kindle, but didn't take in account that every entry ate up memory. So the memory filled up and that Kindle is a doorstop. I can pull data off it, but I can't port it into my new Kindle. I also lost access to all the coin related bookmarks I had, but over the next few months lurking around here managed to reclaim them all, thanks to everyone here!
I'm lame, I moved from a note pad last year to a Draft email in my yahoo account that I update whenever I get a new coin and sometimes print it off and mark it up - slabbed go in one of the PCGS or Intercept boxes and raw go into flips and boxes but are not broken out by boxes yet, just under the general heading "raw". The sad thing is I'm fine with Excel and have the latest version of Office, lol. On the plus side my system is super easy.
LOL I thought about that when I wrote it. What I didn’t say is that the computer was an IBM running DOS 1.0. But it has a Hugh 10 Meg hard drive!
