Recently got my hands on this beautiful set -

This 1794 mint set is replica struck to exact specifications (ie. metal, size) as the originals, by the Gallery Mint some 200 years later (I believe between 1992-1996). Based on some searching, this private mint operated until 2007 when one of the two founders/owners/operators passed away.

I'm usually not one for replicas, but the craftsmanship, detail, and condition were impossible to resist. I hope to someday, maybe, get my hands on a genuine version of at least one of these, but if not, I'll continue enjoying this beautiful set :)

Here are examples of the real coins. I can't afford the half dollar or the dollar.

Half Cent - There are several faces of Ms. Liberty on these coins.

Large Cent - Head of 1794 type

Please don't feel discouraged. It took me many years to reach this level.

@johnmilton Those are fantastic; kudos!! Regarding the half and the dollar, I recall reading why those two denominations are scarcer; I'll have to find that paragraph/page and post a picture. Definitely not discouraged at all; not a race for me - more of "let's see how much I can hoard before wifey complains" :)

On a similar note, I was recently browsing one of my PCGS Set Registry sets and looking at a comment I'd posted ~9 years ago. Essentially, it came down to how the best 1921 HR Peace dollar I could afford at the time was AU50. The next comment was ~year ago, when I'd upgraded that coin to MS62. Of course the mindset then was that MS62 was the ceiling... but let's see where I'm at in another decade :D

There have actually been quite a few 1794 half dollars coming to the market in recent years. I could swung a VF if I had wanted to do it, but it did not fit in with where I wanted to go.

As for the 1794 dollar, this was the last "decent one" I have seen that was priced at under $100 k. Strike was obviously the issue with this one. That was about eight years ago. Since then, prices have been "onward and upward"

Late to this thread, but love your 1794 coins, especially the half dime, as I'm trying to collect them for a Dansco album collection. I just purchased a couple of copper and silver GMM sets of 1793-96 coins (inbound) at an online auction, and decided to do a little supplemental research on the GMM restrikes.

    The replicas caught my attention.
Then @johnmilton topped it off with the REAL coins.

Browsing some Heritage auctions today and there's a 1794 dollar coming up in a couple of weeks. Already north of $60k in mid-grade.

That's a nice set of replicas. I don't have any of them, but I do have a Dan Carr replica 1793 silver plug cent which is fun to look at. Beautiful coins, John Milton!
