This new database, Interaktive Kataloge der Münzkabinette (IKMK), brings together 90,000 coins from public collections in Germany and Austria. The descriptions are in German but there is an English UI. https://ikmk.net/home?lang=en
Very useful database. I started with the map, selected a mint and then opened a few coins to see what was written in the descriptions for each of the fields. After that the search function was easier to use.
Apologies for the double posting (internet troubles...) Very useful database. I started with the map, selected a mint and then opened a few coins to see what was written in the descriptions for each of the fields. After that the search function was easier to use.
I wonder if the accept corrections. I note that a few of their denarii of Septimius Severus are attributed to the incorrect mint.
They will probably be grateful for corrections. I noticed a number of errors in the Ostrogothic section of the British Museum Collection. I pointed them out to them. They replied with many months delay, but eventually corrected their attributions. I guess these public collections will do the same.
