1985 Canada cent weird doubling or die clash?

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Dave from the country, May 23, 2021.

  1. Hello,
I was going through some 1985 Canadian pennies this morning and found one that is odd and damaged in a way that is new to me, particularly with regard to the bottom part of the maple leaf stem next to the date. It is almost like multiple die strikes but then that doesn't seem to fit, nor does a die clash. Also, the dates are so flattened (loose dies??) that all together I don't know what to make of it. Has anyone run into these types of perhaps multiple errors before? Can someone please offer an explanation? I have not provided photos of the obvesre side of the coin as it is completely normal. Many thanks. Dave

That's from a solvent of some kind, Dave. It's considered post-mint damage. Don't ask me why they did it, I got no idea.

    No.. That wouldn't happen.

Coin looks like it was shellacked and over the years it has come off.
