    Hi all!

I bought this coin quite a while ago, and I was going to make a post about it, but forgot.

It is an antoninianus of Victorinus, with Salus reverse. However, instead of reading SALVS AVG, it appears to read SALTS AVG. Is this an error?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

Less of an error, more of an illiterate celator

The coin might be unofficial. Seems like there were as many imitations as official coins during this time.

If we consider how incredibly common they are, few later Gallic empire coins seem to turn up with legend errors. Yours doesn't look "barbarous" stylistically speaking, and an error is one of the possibilities. Another one is a worn die, look at my example and try to imagine what it would look like if you erase one of the two "arms" of the "V".

The coin looks official to me. I suppose a partially blocked die, plus the rough patina/encrustations could have been responsible for the V looking like a T.
