Here are 2 new pick ups. I had never done anything with Ethiopia coins but this one has some nice eye appeal. Independent Kingdoms, Maratha Confederacy, INO Shah Alam II (AH 1174-1221, 1759-1806 AD), Silver Rupee, 11.15 grams, 21.61 mm, Dar-ul-Sarur Saharanpur Mint, AH 1208, RY 34 1889 1/4 Bir
I like that 1/4 Bir. Here are some from my Ethiopia collection... Eventually I want some fractional Bir's and a big Bir.
I love the Ethiopian coins, especially the lion. Unfortunately, I don't have any. I have a few notes from Ethiopia when I was in Addis Ababa. They have a plain 'ole boring lion on them. not wearing a crown or carrying a staff.
That rupee is in wonderful condition! It’s got some nice die cracks in it too. It does look like AH 1207 written on it though. I always wonder why by 1792-93 - when this coin was stuck, the Marathas continued striking coins in the name of their enemy, The Mughal emperor Shah Alam. By this time, they were more powerful than the Mughals, ruled over more land but they left the coinage as it was..
