Will ANACS give a holed coin a 'details' grade, like they do with cleaned or scratched coins? Also, what value do you guys consider is the minimum to get a coin graded? At least $100? More/less? Thanks in advance, JasonB
I wouldn't get any coin graded by ANACS if I were you. Their quality has fallen WAY off in the past months. While they will authenticate your holed coin, I would send it to NGC. They will give it a details grade and their holder is more "accepted" in the coin market today. As to the minimum value of a coin that should be graded? That's a decision you need to make. Is the coin special to you but not worth a lot? Maybe you should get it graded for protection. My belief, however, is that the coin should not be put in a holder at all; just take a look at my motto. Grading gods steal your money...IMHO! Hope this helps!
I have always felt that a coin should only be slabbed if the slabbing fee was at minimum only 20% of the coin's value...unless the coin held some special sentimental value.
That would have to be one heck of a coin to justify slabbing. I checked the ANACS website, and they didn't mention holed coins. You might want to give them a call. For what it's worth (nothing), to the best of my recollection (none), I've never seen a holed coin in an ANACS slab.
To the best of my knowledge none of the major TPG's will slab holed or plugged coins. They consider them to be altered/damaged.

I would not consider that token a coin. Nor would I consider being in a Genuine holder the same as being graded. Genuine holders merely authenticate, they do not provide grades. Fair enough, apparently the recent owners of ANACS have changed what I thought the previous policy was. But again, it is still not a regular slab, and the coin is not graded as such.
In the old days, ANACS would slab more than just holed coins, they would slab coins with many different problems... sometime all on the same coin. I was reminded of this one posted by airplanenut on the CU Forum:
Not only did they authenticate that thing but they even assigned it a net grade. Only ANACS would have the guts to even attempt to assign a grade to coin like that. It takes some big ones to do that. I love it! Of course the collector who actually submitted that thing is pretty daring as well. This is proof that there's no such thing as a coin that can't be graded!
Yes ANACS used to assign net grades, they no longer do though. I stand corrected on them slabbing holed coins - thought they drew the line at that, but guess not.
Yeah, they were very gratuitous with this grading. If someone wanted to buy this coin, I really don't think they could compain about ANACS.
that totally kicks butt!! I love it!!!! I'd love to take this coin into the local shop and explain what I !!!! did to the coin before I had it graded and ask him what he'd wanna pay for it
