This has got to be the weirdest coin I've seen . I've been through alot of rolls and bags but I've never seen anything like this before ... I know the pictures aren't the best but what could have caused this type of "doubling".... and Yes it is doubling you can see the liberty 2 or 3 times above the normal placement and the outline of Lincoln at least 2twice rotated about 25 degrees ahead.i KNOW IT WASN'T A SMASH JOB SINCE THE REVERSE IS PERFECT.. Could this be a coin the would have got "caught" or moved during striking?? I defer you all of you who are more knowledgable then I am . Thanks Shotgunsteve
Looks like a struck through. Struck through what it's hard to tell. And I'm far from being an expert.
I would agree with the strike through... Very very late stage die cap??? It has to be something solid IMO I would rule out grease because when they get this bad you see it on the reverse as well.... It reminds me of tin foil... Neat coin
Well questions remain.... If indeed it is a strike through..why is the "in god we" perfect as if nothing was "on-top" of that point. Couldn't it have been 'rotated' near/at that point;hence the rotated look on the rest of the coin? Thanks for everyone's input..if you'll need more picts I will try to accomadate!
hey guys under closer inspection I just found additional remanets of the '97' on the shoulder multiple times
