I’ve seen a lot of the Masonic Tokens and it never ceases to amaze me the types, styles and artwork on them. Some are new (1950’s to date) and others are over 100 years old.

Not sure of the actual age of this lodge but the artwork is clearly a Masonic Token. The reverse was grinded down and the Masonic Token was carved into it. Then a loop was attached. It is worn on both sides but still readable in hand. Hard to see in photos though.

The reverse has a Masonic crest while the obverse has a date of 1855. Clearly the profile of Lady Liberty on a large cent.

Is it an 1855 Large Cent?

Yes it is. It’s also in a 2x2 so the plastic adds to the problem of photography.

CN, I've followed your token threads, particularly those that pertain to the Masons and Shriners. I've posted these coins before. Perhaps you have seen them, but I didn't want to hijack your thread.

These designs were created by a retired employee of the Philly Mint.

Chris, no problem with posting your coins in a thread I start. We are Coin Talk, an adult community with a common interest and I enjoy looking as much as I enjoy posting. It’s only been recently that I have been interested in Masonic Tokens.

I saw a small collection of them and had to have them. I’ve shared a number of the older or more interesting ones here. Glad you have followed them and thanks for posting yours.

    Very nice piece.
With the amount of wear on the reverse since the engraving I would dare say it was a very cherished piece.

Yes, it looks like it went everywhere with them. Probably since 1855. Lol
