if you could please help my with a turkiye coin wich was made in 1975. on the back it says 50Kurus on it. any help please.
Hi joe, and to the forum. It is usually much easier to identify a coin from a picture than from an incomplete description, but in this case there seems to only be one possibility. KM#899, a stainless steel coin portraying a female bust on the obverse, had a 1975 mintage of 27,714,000, and it's valued in the 2006 33rd Ed. Standard Catalog of World Coins at Very Fine 10¢, Extra Fine 15¢, and Uncirculated 25¢. As a result of currency devaluations, its face value is a tiny fraction of US1¢.
And they devalued the Turkish lire because the old version wasn't even worth one cent. Trust me, I know. Although there was a certain attraction to wandering around Izmir and Bergama asking for change to a TL 20,000,000 note (worth about $14 at the time).
Roy,Turkey has now revalued its currency. There is 100 Yeni Kurus in 1 Yeni Lira. The word 'Yeni is the Turkish for 'New'. Aidan.
