The high price of Platinum can be directly attriduted to China. China is importing about 1.47 million ounces which is about 25% of the entire output of platinum in the world. Platinum jewelry is a status symbol and China is currently the largest platinum consumer for jewelry in the world.

I think the greatest profit you made was the time you have had and continue to have after those 13 months in Vietnam.

I don't know much about prices of precious metals, but I do know that China is becoming more and more economically powerful, and I think will be able to rival the US.

I view this as more of a positive than a negative. How many things can you buy today that cost the same amount of money as they did during the 1970s? Remember, stocks in the summer of 1982 sold for about 80% of the high price that was reached in 1966, about 16 years earlier. Some people were convinced that this was evidence that stocks would never rise. Others saw it as evidence of undervaluation. We all know what happened next [stocks soared, just in case anyone is wondering]. This isn't proof of anything, and gold may or may not go through the roof, but betting against asset inflation has generally been a bad bet over long periods of time.

My personal opinion is that gold at $800 in 1980 was very overvalued, and gold at $475 in 2005 is most likely significantly undervalued. If you figure gold should have sold for $400 instead of $800 in 1980, 3% inflation would indicate a current value of $840 per ounce is more appropriate.

    silver price

silver posted a new recent high this morning at $7.69 per ounce. that's mean the silver quarter bullion price is now $1.39 each. and the silver statehood quarter proof should at least be worth $3.50 each. and the five pc statehood silver proof with case but without sleeves/box and c.o.a. will worth at least or a minimum $17.50 a set.

Not that I disagree, just curious why $3.50 for silver proof quarter?

    $3.50 each

i am talking about the statehood silver quarter proof coin. minimum selling price for common statehood silver quarter proof coin is $3.00. like you can buy year 2003, 2004 and 2005 statehood silver quarter at that price. but now the silver is moving up. so, i estimate it should be $3.50 each for the common one.

    statehood silver proof quarter

statehood silver proof quarter price: date from paul sims.

    1999 - 67.80 each
    2000 - 5.59 each
    2001 - 13.99 each
    2002 - 8.99 each
    2003 - 5.99 each on sale 2.99 each buy 10 pc 2.88 each
    2004 - 3.99 each on sale 2.99 each buy 10 pc 2.88 each
    2005 - 4.99 each on sale 2.99 each buy 10 pc 2.88 each

to sumarize: the minimun price for statehood silver proof quarter is 3.00 each. while the silver is up more than 10%. i presume the minimun price should be $3.50.

I've been collecting coins and bullion for years. One thing I've noticed is that when bullion goes up it is usually in times of economic crisis. As the price of silver rises the intrinsic numismatic value of coins drop. This is because people can no longer afford coins for their collectiblity. Ultimately what happens is that the silver content of the coin surpasses the numismatic value of the coin and the coins end up in the smelting pot. I have been buying 100 oz bars of silver bullion the past few months at the expense of increasing my coin collection. As more people become aware of the direction the economy is taking as a result of rising oil prices they change their investment habits. I will hold on to the collection I have amassed over the past 40 years, but I will not add to it until the economic conditions change. In the meantime my bullion continues to rise in value. Much of the silver I own was purchased years ago when the prices were in the $5 range. True it rose to a little over $10 a few years back, but for the most part silver prices are stable and rise and fall according to the economic trends.
