exactly what is this, what does it mean?? and is this one in the scan one, or not, and how do you tell the difference??
Your pictures are a bit dark and unclear to my eyes but looking at the 3 it may be a WDDO-001 that is a 1943/2 nice find if it is.
The 1943/2-P is an overdate which is a coin struck from a die with a date that has one year punched over a different year. In this case the 3 punched over the 2. It is pretty easy to see when you know what to look for. Rather than show you a comparison of an overdate to a standard 1943-P, I will show you the overdate compared to a 1943-P DDO which has doubling on the date. The left side is the overdate and the right side is the DDO commonly known as the "doubled eye" variety (see photos below) due to the prominent doubling of Jefferson's eye. In the overdate you can clearly see the remnants of the 2. The base of the two is evident as an almost flat horizontal line that fills the bottom curvature of the 3. You can also see the distinct but incomplete rise of the 2 from the base towards the middle of the 3. Compare this to the obvious doubling of the DDO on the right. Every digit of the date is doubled and the doubling of the three follows the curvature of the number. The photo above shows two examples of the "doubled eye" on the 1943-P Jefferson Nickel DDO FS-106 (formerly FS-029). These coins are very difficult to locate in mint state condition and are even valuable in the circulated grades. Good luck roll searchers, happy hunting!
All I can make out in the OP's coin is a die chip in the "3". I see no evidence of doubling or a repunched date.
I played with his image. It is Not a 1943/1942 P nickel. It doesn't resemble one at all. Thanks, Bill
heres a better image of the nickel in questio, i enlarged it, and inverted the colors using paint, ant it appears i do not have a 43/42. but im not the expert....
