It's intended to be a commemorative. NGC is not recognizing them as a continuation of the registry US type sets. Nor are they going to be selling them in rolls for circulation. They're struck on commemorative planchets individually packaged in boxes. So I would say they were not intended to be an official continuation of the set. Some will be bummed out over that. But, these were not a continuation of their respective sets either: There are many WLH collectors and these came out in 24k gold for the 100th anniversary. Same as the 50th anniversary Kennedy half dollar commemorative. 24k. The anniversary coins are minted to be special, not a continuation of the series for old time's sake. That drives some people crazy. Others, like myself think it's neat. It doesn't bother me if people come up with twenty reasons to hate them. I think there's truly legitimate complaints to be had about this roll out while others are manufactured so as to be seen as purists I suppose. Some people are glass half full and others see it as half empty. I'm more concerned what the contents is.
I'm going for two of each on the 24th if I can get the order through on the website. I will probably get more and less of the others but at least one of each. I am concerned about the order process. If you want another legitimate complaint that has driven people away, the website on release days is it. I really couldn't blame anyone for avoiding the stress of trying to get through. The most rational thing to do would be to avoid it. Unless you really want the product. Too many non-collecting flippers with dollar signs in their eyes have honed in on products like these. I don't even care if somebody on this forum wants to buy and flip one. The website could probably still handle that. It's the droves of non-collectors who think they're really clever, that most likely pushes it over the edge into total gridlock for everyone. Peoples family and friends logging in to buy more. That's the crap that shuts it down.
@Mac McDonald My collecting taste is a bit anal. I collect a series of coins and have to have all of them. For example, I have every cent from 1857 to 2021, including every mint mark available for the coin. I collect any varieties of those coins (1869/69, 1877, 1909 SVDB, etc.). I don't collect errors unless they happen to fall in my lap. So for me, I have a full album of Peace Dollars. The new 2021 is being released as .999 bullion, so to me, it isn't any different than a generic round. If it was 90% I'd be all over it. As far as price...it's one ounce of silver = $30.00 max for me. Just a preference thing for me. P.S. I just got my Littleton catalog today. They tell us to hurry within the next 15 days to get the 10% off. The coins are $153.00. NOPE!
Just the Morgans. The privy marks are for the two mints that struck Morgans that are no longer in operation. All of the 1921 Peace dollars were struck at Philadelphia so no need for privy marks
This thread was started because of my mixed feelings. At first I thought, why not, two of each. Then I remembered the frustration last time the Mint had one of these limited offerings that interested me. Trying to log in to their site was a horrible experience! So I wondered what other people were thinking, hoping for direction and guidance. But talk about the full spectrum! A thank you to those who responded. Bottom line, I will wait and if the Mint web site experience remains as it was last time, will not be purchasing anything. I will be interested to learn how y’all fared with your Mint experience?
The mint website experience will be just like last time. However, the mintages are higher than it was for the 2019S ERP or the 2020W V75 silver eagles by at least double those offerings, so in theory it should stay active for more than a few minutes and up to an hour or more to get past the initial crashing and captcha issues that arise by so many trying to log on and close out an order, and refreshing too much. I think it will start bad, it always does, but if you stick with it and keep trying it will work out smooth over and you'll get to place an order at 10-15 minutes after sales open up. As far as the 2019S ERP (mintage 30,000) and the 2020W V75 (Mintage 75,000), I got both of them with a lot of fighting to complete the orders in both cases but more time and much easier to get the V75 one than it was for the ERP easily double the sale time before it closed probably triple, I nearly missed the ERP that sold out in less than 20 minutes, the V75 silver eagle took about an hour to get marked sold out/unavailable I think. With 175K mintage and even with demand, I'd expect it to go at least an hour or a few hours like with the Pride of Two Nations set did which was about 4-5 hours and a mintage of 110,000. I think they are going to get the preferred dealers out of the way before it goes on sale, then you just have to face the flippers and their friends and people like yourself, and not so much the home shopping channels and APMEX and ect. and their brigades of processors and head hunters ordering for them the same time you are. those head hunters will still be there for the little guys that aren't bullion dealers looking for a quick flip to make a buck, but The regular dealers for the mint will get theirs and get out of the way and that should cut down the traffic in theory. If it's something you want, I'd say it's probably worth the effort and a good shot at getting it as long as you don't let the start of them going on sale drive you crazy and give up.
I, too, will not go that route. It's from the mint at issue price or not at all...and if their price had been much more...something over $100...not even then. But for $85 if I can get one, will do.
I will try to get them but anticipate getting shut out. Yes, they are overpriced, but I think they will be a nice addition to our collection. On the other hand, I saw the price of the gold Buffalo being released today and that's a hard nope for us.
If the mint can sell out those 2021 Morgan and peace dollars. Then my guess is that the secondary market will sell these coins between $249 to $299 each. Then gradually decrease the price there after.
I will be waiting in line to grab a couple of them! I love the Morgan and peace dollars and will be excited to add a few of the new ones to my collections. What gets me is the privy marks for the original mint marks. I'm not a huge fan.
The egg because chickens come from eggs and only hens make chickens. First hen, then egg and then chicken. Bok Cash cow me please
The CoinWorld article revealed the 2021 Peace dollar to look like a matte proof strike. Maybe it was a specimen or test strike... would have been nice for the Mint to offer. The BU one doesn't look too bad with its relief though. https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...ils-about-2021-silver-dollar-centennial-coins
I've been thinking about buying the Peace for sure (cross my fingers). Then I thought I would try to order from the bottom of the list of the Morgans. Most people usually start at the top of a list. Maybe if I start at the bottom. Who knows? All the coins I buy just collect dust. My wife could care less. We've got this deal going. If I buy something for $100, then she can buy something for $100. She's been remodeling our house in the city (Don't ask.) She's been looking for a carpet for the living room. The one she likes cost over 3 grand. Now, what can I buy for $3,000. Any ideas?
You sir, can buy a TON of those Peace dollars you were thinking about! Well at least a tube or two! lol. Better get on that!
