Hi all, I have a question regarding the coins of 1965. I see in the PCGS value guide that an MS 67 Kennedy half is valued much, much higher than an MS 67 SMS Kennedy half. How does one tell if the half is from the SMS? I have seen some 1965 SMS sets and some don't look much different or any better than the uncirculated coins from the same year....Is it a die thing? Thanks for your input.

Sometimes it can be pretty hard to tell the SMS from circulation strikes. But as a general rule the surfaces of the SMS will be a little nicer, more polished looking and the legends will be a bit sharper around the edges of the letters. Not really squared off like a Proof, but more so than the circ strikes.

More than a few pros have misidentified SMS coins as circ strikes - it aint easy !!
