Was curious on this 1988 the serif points inwards... is this a reverse of 89 variety? Thank you! Still learning, only been doing this for a few months.
Not to be rude, but what's this about ? If you can't see it with a loupe or by Eye , it doesn't exist . IMHO.
Well, the 1988 D with 1989 reverse is certainly a recognized variety, and it definitely exists. I really can't tell if this is one or not from the pictures, maybe some of the more experienced Lincoln variety guys can. Some clearer closeups may be needed.
No, the reverse of 89 would be a fresh die since they only started using the 89 reverses at the end of the calendar year when they started to run out of 88 reverses at the mint. As a result, none of the 89 reverses are known to exist in later die states and should have a very prominent flared G. Also note that the devices on USA are wider and flatter on the reverse of 89 and thinner and more rounded on the 88s. Here is a link to a reverse of 89 I posted yesterday to compare if you'd like https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1988-p-reverse-of-89-fs-901-rdv-006.380689/ @SensibleSal66 The variety certainly exists and can be easily seen with a scope or loupe if you know what you're looking at. This isn't it, however.
Never said i didn't exist . If you have to use a Microscope to see it , than it's too little to appeal to me and in turn not worth much. IMHO.
These are worth a few hundred bucks if you get one in even low MS red condition, so worth being able to identify imo.
Not a Rev. of ‘89. I use a microscope and 15x loupe tag team every day to confirm doubling and die markers, but I suppose there are those where that is not important to them... ...Jmho...Spark
