Are you ok with the new (kinda) obverse quarter. I think there wonderful. All my new ones are circulated but I bet the proofs are to die for. I just like the old style cuz I don’t have any pretty ones. Pre 1999

I'm hearing a lot of grumpy grumps grumbling about everything...

We ALL actually love so many of the coins once we get to hold and fondle them with our eyeballs in real life lol!!!

I'm anxiously awaiting for the Denver Mint to announce tours and things again since it's only a few minutes away!

...C'mon, when's the last time someone started a thread called "Oh my gosh I'm totally ecstatic about the mint's prices, customer service, and all upcoming future coin designs!!!"? :hilarious:

Molly Pitcher is still my favorite choice! I submitted my suggestion to them.

I've got a few but I'm not collecting modern quarters anymore. I decided a while back that I didn't want to try to keep up with all of the new designs. I'd rather concentrate on some of the older, more traditional series. IMO, the US Mint today is like a runaway train with no engineer.

I did finally get a couple of the new quarters in change, and yeah, the obverse is improved. Still would prefer Lady Liberty, though.

So go buy one, they are still on sale and probably will be for some time yet.

After the state quarters collection (silver and clad) ended, I'm done with quarters. I have enjoyed reading comments (positive and negative) on ATB quarters from fellow collectors. I don't think the Mint will ever top the state quarter program.

I agree!!! When they first came out with the state quarter I thought or hoped the they would have nice designs on them. Wishful thinking most of them looked like a grammar school kid came up with the designs. There were some nice designs but, many looked like no one put any thought in them. The national parks quarters were better and some were really nice. I think this new program will end up like the state quarters. A few nice designs and the rest will be pretty bad. What they should do is stop making the Kennedy half dollar and use the half dollar as the host coin.

I think one of the main points of the program is to get new designs into circulating coinage. Half-dollars aren't really "circulating" at this point. I see them less frequently than I see dollar coins, and I only ever see those if I ask for them, or peek into the "crap we don't know what to do with but the boss says we have to accept it" slot in a cash register.

The sad thing is that half dollars did actually circulate before they switched to the Kennedy half. Then it seemed that every Kennedy half made was considered special and were horded. Kennedy was only an average or slightly above average president. After he was killed he became larger than life. Monuments were built in honor of him and buildings were named after him. I could go on but, there's no point. A lot of the stories told about him weren't true or never happened the way they were depicted after he died. I wonder how many people know he was on a lot of pain medication because of a back injury. The man was in constant pain. Even the stories about him and Ms. Monroe are for the most part BS.

I personally believe that the fact that legal scholars can disagree on a law like this, that there's that much ambiguity, especially on a law as trivial as a coinage bill, is disgusting. Our laws ought to be clear and unambiguous.

When I was kid collector in the 1960s, it took forever to get anything new. The Lincoln Memorial cent came out in 1959 at the beginning of my time as a collector. The Kennedy Half Dollar was introduced in 1964. The clad coinage was introduced in 1965 by necessity, and most collectors didn't like it. The copper-nickel clad half dollar came out 1971, which was also a collector dud. The 1971 Proof set was ugly.

Then they made a big deal of the Ike Dollar 1973. Then the Bicentennial in 1975-6.

From 1959 to 1976, you had six new items in 17 years if you count the clad coins and Bicentennial pieces as one event. When you are 10 years old, 17 years seems like forever.

Now we get several new coins a month at ever increasing prices. it's an overload, and quite honestly I'm not interested in most of it.

The commemorative coin programs are similar. It started off slow from 1892 to 1915 11 coin designs. Then it picked up steam in the 1920s, and by the '30s, it was collector abuse.

Why can't the mint exercise moderation? It's either way too much or way too little.

It's not the mint its Congress.

There are several designs the mint could change on their own authority because they've been used for 25 years. The mint hasn't done that.

Commemorative programs are limited by law to two per year.

So congress gets around that by mandating non-commemorative circulation programs like 50SQ, ATB, NA$, AI$, and now the 2021 Morgan/Peace and NWQ programs.

    2 per year vs. 56 @ 4 or 5 / year...
