Wondering if anyone has ever seen something like this>
Got it from my Mom long ago (with many other Kennedy's halfs but loose).

It seem to be supported, I would guess, in a gel?

Any ideas on worth or do I need to carefully remove it to check it out (cannot see the back)?

    Thx

Welcome to CT. Leave as is. That’s the best thing. Look like a paperweight and a number of them were made. It’s a ‘64 and that’s 90% silver so today it’s worth about $10.00. Getting it from mom makes it priceless.

It's probably in Acrylic and trying to get it out would ruin it.

So what are you going to do with it if you do get it out? Just use it. If you don't have the paper for it to weight down, put it on your coffee table as a conversation piece. I wouldn't ruin it.

I wasn't sure if it was one of the rarer ones I read about...and thus need to examine it to be sure.

Welcome to Coin Talk. It's not a rare coin. Since it belonged to your mom it has more value the way it is.

    Welcome to CT.

I agree with everyone else. It should forever remain entombed in the lucite it currently resides in. The 1964 had over a quarter of a billion minted. Not rare by any stretch of the imagination.

Every time you look at it may you have loving, wonderful memories of your mom.

Yep…. Acrylic entombed coins. I have a 1954 mint set entombed in a cube like that. I don’t know why folks did that back in the day….. Do not try to take it out. Your only hope is smashing the acrylic with a hammer. I remember one CT member that tried that a few years back and ended up with acrylic slivers in his hands. That stuff shatters in shards like glass….. Just leave it be and if you want a 64 Kennedy half just go spend ten bucks with a dealer and leave that one as a conversation piece.
