30 odd months ago I contacted the Archaeology Museum d’ Abruzzo Villa Frigerj Chieti about the Poggio Picenze Hoard IGCH 2056 that rests in that museum. After some initial difficulty I enlisted the Italian Embassy in London who eventually found out that the hoard had been allocated to a scholar for publication. As I can see ( not being a scholar!) there would only be one problematical portion that would need some work on it and that is the 250 triobols of the Achaean league. The rest are quite easy to write on. 80 Athens New Style Tetradrachms 13 Sulla tetradrachms 2 Byzantion late post Lysimachi Tetradrachms 7 Mithradates VI Tetradrachms 1 Nicomedes III Tetradrachm 4 Ariarathes IX Tetradrachms and 10 Drachms 250 Achaean League Hemidrachms The Cappadocian coins have been written up by Morkholm, The Nicomedes, Mithradatic and Byzantion Lysimachi can be found in F. deCallatay's Les histories des guerres Mithradatiques...1997 and the NewStyles and Sulla pseudo Athens of course starts from NSSCA of Thompson 1961. I don't expect any movement on publication in my lifetime without direct action and it is that I hope to address. Certainly some of the NewStyles appear to be on display as in the photograph found on the web but what of the rest? If any CTer lives near the museum can you give them a poke and take photograph's with or without their assistance? And maybe enquire about the progress of the indolent scholar? And would they grant me the honour of publishing the NewStyle portion? Thanks John
