Well done BT. Of my last 30,000 searched, I have found exactly 0 WAM's. No 98's, 99's or 2k's. I found 5 lathe 96 D's in that batch though, I also got a very clean LP3 D last night. I live in an area that D's are common and P's not so much.
Man, that's a strike out. I know the feeling though, the WAM's are tough to find. About the time you give up on finding one, one will pop up. However, I was VERY shocked to find another 99....they are scarce. You must be on the west coast. Here in Cincy I find very few D mint coins. It's frustrating because I need 90-D and 91-D's for my BU roll set. They just don't exist here!
Another nice find. I think the 1st one was better. I know from CCFthat you were going to send it out for grading. Did you get it back & what did it grade?
It is an abbreviation that refers to the space between the "A" and the "M" of "AMERICA" on the reverse. (Wide AMerica) The '98 '99 and 2000 circulation strikes had a reverse where they touch. The proofs for those years had a wide AM reverse. Here is a good link: http://lincolncentresource.com/wideams.html BT's coin is a circulation strike that has the reverse of a proof. It is especially cool because the '99 is the toughest year to find. It gets another real cool :thumb: because it is in good shape. Hope this helps.
I have not rec'd it back from NGC yet. It was sent in right when they started details grading so it was the worst time. However, it should be soon....I hope! LOL :rolling:
If my friend decides to send it in, an MS grade would be outstanding. Personally, I think the TGP's are too lenient on modern Lincolns. Most of them I've seen with low MS grades are in my eyes AU. I would grade this coin AU-55 whereas a TGP will likely give it an MS60-61 RD.
BadThad, funny you should mention those numbers. I thought this one would come back an AU 55 or 58. It came back MS61 RB
OK, who graded that coin? When will the TGP's learn to grade modern Memorial cents? That coin is XF-45 IMO. It's obviously been circulated a good bit. If that's a 61, then my coin is a 65.
I have got to agree, with out a super blow up, it sure does not look MS, I'm not putting down your 99 at all, but Wow....congrats on having one...
