What do you think about the OBW rolls that are sold on ebay? Are they really old rolls from a bank that are untouched? What about the unsearched Lincoln rolls? Do you really think they're unsearched? Any experiences buying either?? Good story, bad story?
I've bought some legit OBW Lincoln rolls, mostly Memorial cents. Some OBW wheat rolls exist on there, but watch the seller closely. There's not many that I would trust. Unsearched wheat rolls on ebay? One in a trillion shot. The existing base of wheat cents have been 99.9% searched. Unless you find an old timer, non-collector with a 50 year old stash, they have been searched.
I bought an OBW tail/tail roll, and guess what? The roll had shiney tails on each end! The problem: inside were two obverserses that had major exposure compared to the rest of the roll! So what was probably an original heads/heads roll of 1957 Lincoln Cents was shuffled around so as to resemble a "mysterious" tails/tails roll in order to command a premium. Fortunately, as always, I keep my bidding sane and paid no more than the typical 1957 roll goes for. Didn't find anything spectacular, but nor did I lose anything. Had fun searching, so I'll still chalk it up as a victory. Another roll I recently bought that was not OBW had some common ends, but had an FE inside! Go figure.
I generally don't believe any of the stories of "unsearched wheat rolls." If you had them, wouldn't you search them before selling? That's my opinion....
Exactly,no such thing as unsearched rolls anymore at least not wheaties, and older, nobodys gonna sell a roll of wheaties without first finding out if there isn't a high dollar coin in them first, they may not be searched hard but at sometime or other they have been searched! Same for bank rolls, unless they come right from the banks vault they have been cherrypicked for high value coins, they might even leave a few semi valuable coins now and then, but don't expect to find any real treasures.
