Yeah I could see that. Still seems far to harsh if you ask me buy it is what it is. I'll get it regarded somewhere else and see what happens. Worth every penny of $360 though if you ask me

When someone consistently has a problem with the grades from a first tier grading service the grading problem isn’t with the TPG

Lol. We're talking about this Barber Half in the pictures, and in this coins case yes it most definitely is a problem with the "first tier grading service". Calling them First Tier is laughable, just like most of the grades they hand out. Apparently their arrogance has blinded them to the fact they're embarrassing themselves

Yeah because that's all you can do. If your opinion meant anything you'd back it up by explaining in detail why it deserves that grade, but even if you were capable of doing that you couldn't for this example. You're probably a "top tier grader" for that "top tier grading service" aren't you? Lol

Not going to waste my time on someone that thinks they know everything. It’s pretty common for people to get upset and just start insulting the companies when they don’t like the grades they receive and just start trying to tear them down instead of learning from it.

It’s pretty much assured you won’t like your grades from NGC either with the comments you’ve been making, maybe you can find a lower tier TPG you’ll get better grades from just don’t be surprised when they sell for a lot less

Lol I love how guys like you always join with condescension and patronization but then immediately cry when it's thrown back at you. You're not as smart as you think you are bud. This coin and many others (including plenty that aren't mine), are pathetically undergraded by PCGS, or overgraded but I'm sure that's some scam being worked. Frankly I don't care if you accept facts or not

Thought about trying ICG or NGC next but maybe I'll just send an order to each and give them both a shot. I've been with PCGS for a year and sent 7 orders of multiple coins and honestly I'm pretty shocked they're at the top of the pecking order. They must be hooking up friends with favorable grades because from what I've seen they have the most coins that are way off grade."

First, we can find examples of over graded, under graded, and correctly graded coins in every TPGS holder. Now think about it...if one service does 6K coins a day and another service does 1200, which service will probably have more coins slabbed that KNOWLEDGEABLE, SUCCESSFUL coin dealers (not rookie collectors) do not agree with?

Most folks consider PCGS and NGC to be the top two TPGS. Anyone who disagrees with this is ignorant. While that is a fact, many collectors/dealers DO NOT USE THEM for excellent reasons of their own.

I find that each of the major services grades fairly closely. Nevertheless, coins in second tier TPGS holders generally sell for less money than the top services. FORTUNATELY, this fact has nothing to do with the QUALITY of the graded coin in a second tier slab. :D

Original coin is pretty obviously cleaned. The one you are comparing it to is indeed a high grade coin, just with splotchy toning.

If you paid $360 for this coin, I'd say you did OK. But I have submitted Barbers before that came back cleaned...the market is less tolerant of cleanings on such vs. older coinage. I think the surfaces on your coin will bother a lot of knowledgable buyers.
You have to decide if resubmitting and trying for AU details is worth it...I'd say it has a chance but not sure if it will boost this coin a whole lot.

I've been talking to ICG as well - Im going to have my entire Morgan date/mint set (- the 1893-S for now lol) graded, and will start with ICG; basically because of price. The person a I talked to was very down to earth and helpful. He also said they have employees who once worked for both PCGS and NGC. I just want my collection preserved/protected and not go broke in the process - Lord knows I've already spent enough lol. Def worth looking into! Did not know of the $10 Coin Talk special; tho right now they are running a $10/coin special (I think its just for $1 coins) for the 10 day service. As long as the coins are postmarked before the end of the month.

  14. Having tomuch to grade is not a good reason for bad gradeing when they charge what they do and still mess up.

grading is a paid opinion nothing more, nothing less

you paid for their opinion and got it, yes it's not what you wanted but then again opinions can differ

I've got coins in both PCGS and NGC holders that I disagree with the grading on. From my experience I am generally more partial to PCGS except for my most recent acquisition in their holder.

They graded a few Morgans for me - $10 each along with the rest of my coins - be sure to put "Cointalk discount - CT name Tusky Ranger" on your Submission form. I figure if and when I get to a place where I need to sell or want to, I can always submit particular coins to PCGS. I have seen overgraded and undergraded coins in PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG slabs. The ones I've submitted I certainly didn't feel any were overgraded - I felt a very critical, and fair, eye was put on my coins and I believe their system of having every coin checked by one grader and double checked by another is a good one. Good luck and congratulations on your Morgans.

  19. PCGS is all over the map. NGC is a little bit better. I don't trust their over priced grading. i would rather use ANACS, all that i have that shoe cleaned have real grade #.

My grade would be Cleaned, AU details, and I would pass on the coin for my collection. Others may like the coin, however.

Anyone on this forum can send in any US coins for $10 each no matter if the ICG Special is running or not. Just put your CT name somewhere on the forum and write "Skip please call me" so we can talk about the grades before they are returned. :D
