Well it happened.. ANACS will not give NET grades anymore...from now on it seems like it will go like this....AU55 Cleaned....no NET grade...I talked to ANACS today and am calling back later to talk to James Taylor...I have a few questions on why and such and some other question...I will let you know how it goes and what he says...that is if he ok's me telling what he says... I heard at one place that they might change the holder too but that is yet another question for Mr Taylor and it wasn't for sure...just what someone heard.... If anybody on here has a question that you want me to ask him post it and if I see if before I call I'll try to ask. I think not giving NET grades will cut down some people from using them...I know I liked them for cleaned coins BECAUSE of the NET grades...PCI will grade cleaned coins but they don't put NET's so that is one of many reason why I don't use them... I hope that maybe this will change and they will go back. Well back to school and later to call ANACS... Speedy
By the time I called back he was gone and won't be back till Monday...oh well...I'll call then and talk..I'll be sure to ask about your coin Speedy
I'm not sure I understand what the benefit of a net grade is as long as the grading standard is disclosed on the coin. If they just provide a technical grade and label it cleaned, that would seem sufficient to me.
Alrighty...I'll try to help you understand why the NET grade... When a coin has been cleaned/damaged/or such it is counted as...wear....so a coin grades--UNC...that is what it would grade without the cleaning...and then NET VF....that is what it grades with the cleaning....that way collectors new or old can buy a coin knowing what it graded and waht it would grade now... Now they only put the grade of the coin before the damage...not the NET...IMO that is bad...I think ANACS is going to lose business doing this... Speedy
The whole purpose of the grade of a coin is to help establish value. That was the benefit ANACS provided with the net grade - it told collectors how much to discount the value of the coin. I don't know if the change will cause ANACS to lose business or gain business. Obviously, they think it will gain business - or else they wouldn't be doing it. But what it will do is provide unscrupulous coin sellers yet another way to take advantage of inexperienced collectors.
