I have acquired these three amongst a bunch of others. I have got the rest sorted, but I am struggling with these last 3. This one looks as if it should be Claudius, but I can't make it fit. About 27mm: This one appears to be one of the Greek provinces of Rome, but I can't make out which, or which emperor. About 25mm: This one the obverse is very poor. I am sure I have seen the obverse before, but I am struggling to work out which emperor. About 20mm: As always, any help much appreciated.
The portrait of Coin 1 looks like Domitian to me, because of the forehead. I'm not very knowledgeable about these coins. But there are many knowledgeable persons on this forum, and I'm sure one of them will come along eventually, and nail it. I don't know much about Coins 2 and 3.
First one is definitely Domitian. An As. http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.2_1(2).dom.488 If you look at the obverse legend, on the right side you can see COS XII CENS PER
#2 Elagabalus, Nicopolis ad Istrum, Moesia Inferior I think the legends are: - AVT K M AVPH ANTΩNINOC Edit: I was clearly wrong on the reverse legend - VΠ POVΦOV NIKOΠOΛITΩN ΠPOC ICTPON VΠ NOBIOV ...
#3 Nero, Corinth. Obverse: NERO (or NERO) CLAV(D) or (CLAVD) CAES(AR) (or CAES) AVG (or AVG); bare head of Nero, r. or l. Reverse: TI CLAVD(IO) OPTATO IIVIR COR or C IVLIO POLYAENO II VIR COR; Bellerophon naked, with shield on l. arm, seizing by bridle Pegasus l. https://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/1/1201
Thanks again both. The Nero one I have got to an exact reference but the Elagabalus - I can't work out which reverse it is. I have been through all the examples on Wildwinds and none seem to fit. Any clues?
Sorry - misled you on the reverse legend - Hygieia and VΠ NOBIOV...Varbanov 3901 (looks like same dies to me)
