I have two 1986D US 1 Cent coins and noticed on one coin the D mint mark is under, straight and down between the date 8 & 9 and the other is struck closer to the 9 and on an angle pointing to the 8. any info would be appreciated ..thanks...
It's normal. Until 1990 the mintmark was applied by hand so anywhere in that area is considered normal.
Just curious to know if she might have applied the mint mark and the position she may have been in at the time...cheers
I don't know why people think it's funny to ask a question and then insult the person who gives their answer.
In any case, until 1990 mint marks were added to each die by hand. The positions relative to the date can vary and the orientation of the mint mark can vary. So it is still normal if it seems to have a slight tilt to it. Thanks, Bill
