How does this guy keep a 99.9% positive feedback rating selling this junk on E-Bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/1944-S-Walking-...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item1e59700330
All his Walkers look the same; it's a shame people have to destroy perfectly good coins with AT just to make a buck...
Because people do not know what they are doing or getting with these type coins. Some of the buyers are thinking - buy this coin cheap and sell it for 10 times the amount with the toning market. They think they are going to make money all the way up until it is returned in a body bag. Then there are those than just like wild toned coins, even if they are AT.
I'm not a fan of that kind of toning myself. I wouldn't pay 7 dollars for a coin that looked like that. But the people buying....must like 'em and get good service from the seller. You could nail an old sneaker to a piece of plywood and somebody on eBay would buy it. Nightowl
Pardon my ignorance as well, but just how is artificial toning achieved? Is it the equivalent to using abrasive cleaners on a coin, or can something that has been artificially toned subsequently be dipped and "repaired'. Ben
Heat will produce that effect. Natural toning occurs over years, decades even, and is caused by the sulphur contained in paper rolls, envelopes, and albums. Nightowl
kinda what i was wondering to. ive posted pics of a (AT) toned morgan i got on ebay. i did say it was a graded coin in the post but the seller had never even mentioned it being graded (even if it was some crummy outfit) so if i could dip it to remove the toning id still break even on the grade. even then AT or not i thou it fit the morgan well. too much toning doesnt fit the type of coin its on.
People that buy coins on TV will buy junk like this on eBay. They don't know any better and/or won't take the time to learn. I agree, it's the quick killing motivation that drives them.
This real NT toning. But my 3.5mp will not pick up the real colors. but I did get one good shoot of the toning on the reverses
