I have a small number of US silver dollars from ~25 years ago when I used to casually collect US coins. Most were $10-20 at the time. I think they are probably mostly more common dates and mints. If any are willing to advise, are there any I should look out for to separate from the rest as better? I've been gradually trading some of my US silver for foreign stuff (not these yet), and am trying to learn which ones are worth treating separately. Thanks for any advice. Looks like I see: Morgans 1897 (holed) (P?) 1890 S 1921 (several) Peace 1922 (several) 1923 (several) 1925 weird toning (P?) 1926 x2 (S, P) I can take better individual photos of any if helpful.
I'd probably have to look up about the rarities and varieties, but I'd keep the 1926 bold "GOD" one, just for the story behind it.
You should buy a book on the Peace dollars - maybe it will rekindle your interest in the series. With the 2021 Morgan's and Peace dollars being issued starting this month - there will be additional interest in both of these series. Plenty of research on-line, but it's nice to have a book. What foreign series are you collecting?
I mostly collect cheap world coppers, 1600-1950 or so. I look for types I don't have in junk bins or among cheap packaged coins. I think there are a lot of bargains to be found looking through unidentified world coins. US coins are great, but they are a mature market and I have trouble finding interesting bargains. And I tend to focus on older modern coins theses days (pre-1850) where US coins can get expensive. I probably have 1000s of world coppers these days, median price about 25 cents, collected over 40 years or so. My pre-1850 bin for example. Particular series of interest to me: Chinese cash coins Japan Meiji to early Showa German States pre-1870 Interwar Central Europe Korea 1888-1910 Emergency/siege coinage Occupation money Counter stamped and chopped coins Large coppers 1800s Not a very focussed list, but I'll never run out of stuff to do in one lifetime!
