I received this strange penny as change and had never heard of pennies like this. What type of error is this? Is it valuable?

Possibly damage after the fact. But could it possibly be an off center strike? Reason I an wondering is the rim at the bottom looks thicker and the space between the bust and inside edge of the bottom rim looks bigger than normal. But, I am no error expert, but there are many on here who are, so I am sure someone will know if it is an error/mis-strike or not.

I'm no expert either and will differ to others more knowlegable. Just looks to me as if something gouged out that area.....

It looks slightly off center, and the circular line that runs through the motto looks like counting/roll machine damage.

The coin is a misaligned die but not far enough off center to be worth any premium. What i suspect the OP is asking about is the "swelling" behind IN GOD WE TRUST. this is caused by a worn die and is normal, no premium.
