Collecting Hawaiian coins can be a pretty pricey endeavor. Take a look also at a Scotts stamp catalog. Stamps are also a pricey adventure. Nice coin Nut.
It’s different but I doubt I’ll start a collection of them. Now I just need to find a good but reasonable price note.
I like the coins of Hawaii and finally finished a circulated set. Grade wise, the op's coin looks about mid VF to me. The obverse appears to have been cleaned, and there is a rim hit around 7:00 that might preclude a straight grade (unless it is some kind of mint made flaw, I'm not sure).
In another thread I said I had one Hawaiian coin but I needed to look for it. Here it is. I found it.
I've got two Hawaiian quarters - one is in an old ANACS holder EF45 it's really dark, the other is prettier but has scratches, I got them both on a lowball bid on eBay because the seller's pics were terrible. I love them!
There is ( perhaps was) a nice coin store on Maui, where I looked for those , but it was close to the " Convention area" and the prices then (1980s) was really high, so I bought some Maui "Dollars" which now that I think about them , have no idea where they are. My nephew and a couple of other family members had a house there, but I opted to stay in the nice Convention Hotel. Never could get use to the Spam Tacos one place sold. Jim
I got one for my daughter to celebrate the Hawaiian cruise we took together several years ago, and 1883 marks 100 years before her birth. Win-win!
Sorry Dave, that's a fake. It should read "King of Sandwich Islands." LOL Just yanking your chain. I love that coin and it has honest wear and still shows all of the details. Nice pick up.
