there's a percentage of places in the service industry that are struggling to find workers depending on the field, people not wanting to take the more public, risky jobs for the low pay.

And there's a percentage of places that decided the pandemic was a good excuse to downsize, have everyone work from home and cut their pay or lay them off if they won't take the pay cut who tossed "service" out the window in favor of cutting costs on the labor side, which in turn leads to disgruntled employees doing the bare minimum since they took a pay cut.

I struggle with my vendors to place and process an order, even just communication is a problem, where I call, and then someone has to call them in order for them to get back to me later, or they are working from home and not checking emails.

Just saying there's a few things going on, it's tough out there. My boss got the PPP loan but decided to just keep it all and pay it back instead of using it to restore the employees salaries to pre-pandemic levels. cheap loan, and more money in his pocket by paying everyone 20% less. The paycuts were supposed to be for 6 months, we are on month 7 and not a peep from him about it. So OF course I'm looking for a new comparable income employment. he can hire new people to replace me when I'm gone and best of luck to ya.

Quite a few bitter folks out there is all I'm saying. it's not always the workers that are lazy and not wanting to work, sometimes it's management that has made the job disappointing and the employees just don't want to work there anymore and biding their time until something else appears on the horizon.

And I'd like to add, which might not go over so well with some folks, that IF you think most folks would rather collect the juicy unemployment check rather than work, and that's what's going on, then this is likely coming from a place inside of you that YOU would do that, and think everyone else would too.

I think for the most part, people at this point, a year into the pandemic are wondering if the money their job gives them is worth their time and efforts especially considering the new risk involved.
There's quite a few people kicked to the curb from their jobs and can't pay their rent and just waiting for the moratorium of evictions to end to be evicted and sued for the back rent they owe, there ain't no "catching up" for some people, they are going to be sued for back rent and will have to file bankruptcies, so their worlds are crumbling in slow motion around them and they know it.

I'm not in that position, I'm "one of the lucky ones" or so I'm told... I spent a year struggling to make ends meet, ya know "times are tough, gotta tighten that belt or I'll have to lay people off".... while my boss remodeled his 3 million dollar house and bought another new Porsche because the 2019 GT3 wasn't doing it for him anymore.
I've counted my blessings, but I've also counted my curses. there's absolutely some bitterness for a lot of folks who got kicked to the side so others could save themselves, not even skipping a beat to their lifestyle, and those same people, like my boss, that maintained his high life lifestyle this whole time as I stressed over paying my bills, are now the ones saying "productivity isn't what it used to be, all this covid money made workers lazy we need to cut them off!"......

it's sickening to me. I don't need people like this in my life. It's bad juju.

I was just thinking the exact same thing. Apparently they have millions waiting to be graded.

Now John.... This sort of talk is going both ways and it's not helping a thing..... I am the boss at my place. In March of 2020 when nobody knew what was on the horizon and we didn't know if business was finished or anything else, I made an announcement to my staff that regardless of what the future holds that this company can promise at least three months income to everyone. I had no idea if business was done due to Covid... What I did know is that I had been thrifty and with what I had saved and I could guarantee that my guys and their families would be taken care of as long as this companies cash reserves held out.

My next step was to send everyone home... But you know what? I didn't miss a day of work. I bid the jobs, tended the customers, washed the toilets, wrote the checks and made the deposits when we were blessed with them. Once we got a handle on things several months in, I implemented a rotating schedule that exists to this day. But this boss did not miss one single day of work and I did that for the guys that work hard for me, though I did forfeit a few pay periods. By the grace of God it appears we have come out the other side and are again motivating forward.

See I am just a tad incensed with this constant negative back and forth... They don't want to work... We are greed monsters.... It goes on and on and the only thing it accomplishes is further division. There is good and bad on both sides of this equation. Always been that way. It's just that the bad makes for better press.... I am sorry I had to get that off my chest. I promise it isn't personal.

It's insane how much has been sent to them in the last year. They probably have a million pokemon cards alone

I think it's also a lot of people who were trying to flip cards fast. They pull a Mahomes or Lamar Jackson...hope to get a quick PSA 10 and flip it before the market cools. Well, the jokes on them.

Knowing no more about a Pokemon card than I do nuclear physics..... Is it time for me to go to the attic and unpack my gown kids stuff?

Only if you like money lol. A sealed original 1999 pokemon card box sold for 1 million dollars and the buyer made millions off of it from what was found inside

The wait certainly isn't idea but they should come out ahead with a 10 either way. What really sucks for the card guys is that as soon as they open submissions back up they will probably just get flooded again

You are talking about the kind of millions that have six zeroes, correct?? Jimmany Christmas!!

Haha yep those kinds. You can actually watch it if you'd like if you google Jake Paul Pokemon. PSA and an auction house were actually there as he did it. The Charizard he found in there they think has a chance of being the first million dollar pokemon card and there were numerous other ones that were 5 or 6 figures

I didn't mean to imply everyone or every boss was the same. just grinds my gears when I hear or see the "we pay people to stay at home, so nobody wants to work" talking point. When the actual problem is a lot more complex than that. It's not a personal attack on you either. you do what you got to do and I'm sure you are one of the good ones.

I got lied to my face on how bad it was for my employer and employment, and then watched the frivolous spending over the last year continue as usual as he cut 12K off my salary but expects the same blood, sweat, and 50 hours a week still.

Buys a 30K italian marble floor for his kitchen, doesn't like it, then pays to have it jackhammered an replaced with another 30K italian marble floor of a slightly different pattern and probably won't like that either and spend another 30K, all the while hearing "we made 2 million last year so it's not as bad as you think it is", and yet my pay still isn't restored.

I'm not saying you are like this, or every business owner is, I'm saying people like this exist. my 12K a year is 2 fuel tank fill ups a year for his yacht. Times are tough I guess, god forbid he doesn't take the boat out as often during the pandemic and pay me my normal salary instead. i'm asking too much I suppose.

But I want to finish that with it's nothing personal from me either. There's all kinds of business owners out there, just like there all kinds of workers out there.

going to go back on topic.....

Service is slow out there for various reasons, downsizing is one, working from home is another, employees not finding the reward is worth the risk is another, so are lazy folks, and some is poor management also, or focusing on "certain customers" over "all customers".

Some of it is done out of necessity, or due to circumstances, and some of it is done to exploit because the business saw the opportunity and decided to take advantage of it.

For all I know the grading companies slowed the turn around times for the average folks on cheap submissions in order to focus on the bread and butter bulk submitters and everyone else has to wait in line now a days while the HSNs of the world and of course the ones paying for rapid turn around, get fast tracked. maybe they got problems with sick days or people working from home, maybe with so many working from home the average submitters have time to submit stuff and thats the reason for the backlogs.

Sounds like you have a problem with your successful boss. I hope I'm wrong. Count your blessings that HE EMPLOYS YOU and you help him live the lifestyle he has. As for folks on the dole, get over it. This country has rapidly changed due to the rot on the inside that allows folks to be lazy if they choose.

I noticed eBay, Amazon, and other sites are overwhelmed with high prices. I am in a holding pattern since Red Book's price index does not hold water to what is happening right now. I am now shopping at our local coin store for bargains and not at all interested in online sales. Maybe later, if all goes well. My opinion only.

Unfortunately, due to the restrictions of publishing, the Redbook is no longer a good place to research coin prices; however, it is a basic guide that is full of other useful info. BTW, the prices listed will let you figure out the common coins from the better dates.

What do you mean buy "restrictions of publishing?" Do you mean that it is outdated before it hits the shelves (due to the time required to publish)...or is there more to it than that?

Outdated. I couldn't spell the word and I hoped folks could figure it out as you have. ;)
