I just won this 1945-P Jefferson Nickel Gem BU Double Die Full Steps-030.3 on eBay for $103.77. Good deal...it looks MS65 to me...PCGS price guide is bogus I know but it values it at a whopping $7500.00 in MS65. What is the true value of this coin when I send it in to PCGS for grading and it receives at least a MS64? Thanks... http://cgi.ebay.com/1945-P-Jefferso..._Individual?hash=item23040f0e5e#ht_500wt_1182
Just an fyi, I never buy Jeffersons or buffalos online especially on ebay b/c I've always been disappointed. good luck to ya'
I wish you the best of luck. The pictures do not seem congruent with each other; the obverse and reverse do not seem to match up as being the same coin. Could be technique, could be a mistake, could be dishonesty. If it is what you think it is, you probably did very well.
Well the seller has 100% Positive feedback with over 1200 transactions. I just put the pictures up side by side using Picasa 3 and its the same coin. Its just shiny and it looks toned...just the way the pictures turned out IMHO... I just looked up the value of this coin on BestCoin.com and it has about the same values in each grade as PCGS...$1000.00 in 63 $3500.00 in 64...dang!
I suspect that the prices in PCGS is for the '45 DDR 1-R-II FS#030.0 rather than the one you purchased, the 3-R-II +VI which is FS 030.3 This DDR is hard to see without a good loupe, and I certainly can't tell from the photos. Jim
What's the difference in the two? And how could a pro coin dealer get it wrong. Plus I can't find anything online about the other coin you described. Thanks....
The prices from PCGS for the 1945-P DDR FS 030.3 is in fact $7,500 but I have no idea whether that is for the FS 030.0. As far as assigning a value to your coin it is going to be very difficult because there are no price guides and little in the way of auction archives. Here is what Heritage has. December 2006 a non FS MS65 NGC DDR FS 030.3 sold for $80.50 January 2007 a FS MS65 NGC DDR FS 030.3 sold for $603.75 August 2009 a FS MS65 NGC DDR FS 030.3 sold for $322 I am the owner of the last coin and here are the photos and auction link: http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=29084&Lot_No=26086 My guess is that if your coin comes back MS64+ with the FS 030.3 DDR you will not lose money on the coin if you sell it.
The FS 030.0 shows doubling on the CELLO in MONTICELLO whereas the FS 030.3 the doubling is more prominent on the FIVE CENTS & UNITED STATES. The only auction history I could find on the FS 030.0 is this ANACS coin. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=358&Lot_No=6067
Well I guess its a FS 030.0...The doubling seems to be much more prominent in the CELLO in MONTICELLO on this coin...Maybe its worth a bit more than the FS 030.3...But I'm clueless.... Thanks for the link!
Looking at the Heritage archives all of the Jefferson PCGS 45-P DDR are FS-030. And every NGC one that is labeled is labeled FS030.3???, and I think some are different reverses myself, but won't argue against the label without it in hand. Looking at the PCGS pricing page, only the 4173/84173 45P DDR is listed, and that is the code for the FS030 variety. They do grade the FS30.3 , but it is 38502 code which isn't priced, so I don't see how the PCGS prices would be for the FS 030.3 NGC has the FS 030 as VP-001 now and the FS 30.3 as VP-002, with corresponding prices. I am going by the CPG photos. Lehigh, looking at the huge photos of your on Heritage, it looks more like the FS 030 than the FS 30.3. Check the "O" in OF especially. I would much rather have a FS FS030 myself. Jim
Yes I won the auction. And paid within minutes. Hope it ships today. When it comes in, I'll take some good large pictures of it..so maybe someone here can help me to attribute and grade it Before sending it off to PCGS. Thanks All.....
