    The vertical press likely produces a slightly better strike than the horizontal press used for regular quarters. I would also guess that West Point takes better care of their dies than those used at Denver and Philidelphia, and they stay in better condition as they are used for striking less coinage. I have searched through hundreds of boxes of 2019 and 2020 quarters for Ws. Every W quarter I found was more fully struck than its P/D equivalent.

    "Coin presses at the West Point Mint were adapted for use to produce circulation strikes. The West Point Mint is striking coins on Grabener presses with dies striking vertically, while the Denver and Philadelphia facilities strike the coins on Schuler presses with dies striking horizontally."

    Yeppers. West Point has vertical presses, Denver and Philadelphia have horizontal presses.
    ALSO, West Point is normally striking bullion and proof coins, which are normally a higher pressure and this could also be the cause of the better strikes.

    As far as W quarters go, they strike 2 million of each design maximum.
    while I have for 2019 Lowell design the mintages are:
    P = 165,800,000
    D = 182,200,000

    there's a few factors at work here. Different presses, possibly different pressure settings, much less quantity produced and slower production, and likely an attention to detail the mass producers don't have.

    From what I can find, San Francisco has Graebener GMP 360 TK press with the dies oriented vertically as well.
    I am not sure of the model press that West Point Mint uses, but it is a Grabener also. It's likely the same model though, I'm just having difficulty confirming that.

    Philadelphia and Denver use Schuler horizontal presses.

    Found my first W-quarter yesterday from a roll that I purchased to due laundry at a hotel in Rochester Minnesota. The find paid for the whole roll.

    Go back to where you found them and try to get a roll-- my years of collecting I notice that when I find a special coin -- I usually go back to the.store or bank(and if you choose bank-- go to the same teller)I find a lot this way
