A thread by Collecting Nut yesterday made me think about a few good for tokens that I enjoy in my collection. Post some of yours.
I Metal Detected for 15 years and never found 1 or ever owned one except a Trolley token . Interesting thread.
Transportation tokens are a whole other page in my token collection. I'll have to start a thread on those sometime.
I need to get some of these to give to my mother-in-law to prove her wrong. She claims I'm "good for nothin'!"
WW2 Red OPA Ration Token. Idk how I even found this thing, but it only weighs 0.35 of a gram But it has some interesting history behind it.
The only "good for" tokens I have are Civil War pieces. "Good for" Civil War tokens are almost always scarce to rare. My theory is that the merchants destroyed them after they were redeemed so that they would not have to make good on them again once the marketing program was over. They also may have been issued in limited quantities. This one was good for "1 glas" of Miller beer. Yes, this token was issued by the original Fredrick Miller who founded the company. The band name has been sold to one big corporation after another. At one time Miller marketed a brand called "Red Dog Beer" that was made at the Plank Road Brewery. That was the original Miller location. This is a rare token with an estimated population of 11 to 20 known. Who says our forefathers didn't have sense of humor? This "Good for a scent" token by Joseph Merriam is now very popular. When I was dealer, I bought these for a $125 to $150. Now they sell for a few thousand.
My only Antarctica token. Well I have more than one. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia11705.html
