It happens my woman again wanted to get a coin for me. So I told her I needed an MS70 ASE for my type set and she got me a nice 2020... with a Biden label... I looked a bit and they exist for trump as well.... without... "politics" please Do you think this will add value to the ASE in the future? I did not post even the sellers image as it was a "stock" picture... but will on request lol
While it’s possible some political enthusiasts could go crazy bidding on it, the potential buyer base is certainly going to be a lot smaller
I am more of a bullion is bullion sort of fellow. I wouldn’t place any value on a political themed label. Interesting that we have such a thing.
I thought similar.. i figured and ASE is an ASE but as it's for a type set all I really wanted was an MS70 slab as you say to me bullion is bullion, and as coins go i buy the coin not the plastic.. I wasn't sure if it actualy affected value with ASEs..
Maybe not now, but in the far future these politically labelled coins can be sold as something similar to the Nixon penny or other historical memorabilia. But I would definitely not buy any bullion that merely has a label to just mark up the price.
I have a Biden-themed ASE (Ancient Silver Eagle). Sure, it's not exactly MS 70, but back when it was MS 70, Biden himself used it to buy a pair of sandals when he was in college.
I had that in mind as well.. 2020 having been the election year would in the future add that extra label "memorabilia". I'm thinking a matched set (biden/trump) might even up that memorabilia factor lol
Would I pay a premium for a label? No. I can understand the "memorabilia" factor but I would assume those that collect political memorabilia would want actual politically related stuff...Not a generic bullion round with a random label slapped on it.
I see this as similar to campaign tokens or buttons that were very common in past elections. There are some people who collect this sort of memorabilia, but not many. @johnmilton has an impressive collection - but I'm guessing he doesn't deal with anything so modern. He might have an opinion on its collectibility. I'm guessing that enough of these were made that they won't have any premium, at least for a few decades.
You could always crack it if it does. I personally think it will always limit the buying pool no mater the person on the holder.
No, political labels will not enhance the value of a coin. In fact it would limit its marketability, as a certain percentage of buyers would not buy a coin of a particular political party.
They've been around since at least Obama who I believe was the first one. Theres at least one "Presidential Transition" with Obama and Trump on it, there's some Inauguration ones as well, then last year there were a bunch that were essentially just campaign ad style labels. There's actually a ton of them out there that have been going on with it for quite sometime. Some of them do actually have premiums, but again the more political ones you'll be limiting your potential buying base
But, as another poster above said, some would pay a premium. I'm not in the market for any slabbed modern bullion, with or without political content -- unless I know I can quickly flip it for a profit to someone who does care.
I can only speak for myself. If the coin’s label were from a political party, I would not buy it, and view it as devalued. Some might have premiums, but only for specific buyers who support the political party that the label represents.
Those tokens and buttons are actual political memorabilia though. A slabbed bullion coin is not. Just because it has a label with a politician's name on it doesn't make it political memorabilia IMO.
This can only be divisive. I don't understand the point of it at all outside of stirring up divisiveness. Yeah, let's see it.
