I'm really glad to have found this place, and so much knowledge I got here so far! And to celebrate this occasion I issue a coin! Inspired from a Roman denarius, I carved what's supposed to be my own bust into wax and took an impression with clay to make this intaglio. Although it ended up looking like a bad barbaric imitation, it makes me greatly appreciate those talented engravers who made realistic busts of emperors/gods. Congratulations! That is awesome! FFIVN has been "minting" his own coins in our backyard with clay and dirt dug from his "mine" lol. I will show him this to give him some inspiration. What type of wax did you use to carve into?
Just a tea light candle wax, although there are specific waxes for projects like this, but I found some waxes to be brittle and some soft to work with.
Congrats! I used to do this with playdough back in the day. I want to someday make real coins of my own design.
Congrats on your one year anniversary. I've learned so much from CT collector enthusiasts, so much love for the art of coin collecting. Looks like you've learned quite a bit, and are having fun utilizing that knowledge!
