Obviously, not all of us... But clearly, enough of us here make the show that it might be worthwhile for us to form an MSNS member club. We would need to have a constitution and officers. After that, belonging to MSNS as a club costs $30 per year. The main advantage is that Coin Talk could schedule a room for a meeting. We would have one place to meet and marshall, hang out for an out, sit and talk. Other clubs do this. Anything else we do would be a bonus. Yes? No? Maybe?
Interesting idea Mike, I'd like to hear from the other Michigan, and near Michigan CT'ers. If it is something we as a group are interested in giving a try, I'll sign up for the first year dues to MSNS for the group. After that we can take donations or whatever.
1. Your in Michagan and not everyone is so they wouldn't be able to make many meetings. 2. Who would decide on where the meetings would take place? 3. No matter who decides on where the meetings would be, there will be many that say can't make it due to distance. 4. Who would decide on the dates and times of the meetings? That too would present many problems. 5. Just what would the $30/year include except membership? 6. What would the actual purpose of such an organization be for? Note that already there are numerous members to this and many other forums for coins, guns, swords, an AVS forum for electronics, auto clubs and/or forums. There are almost 30,000 members to the PCGS organization and probably 99% have never seen each other and if they did, they wouldn't know. Unfortunately hobbies of any kind that mean you collect something of value are not the most favorable for personal information. In many areas coin clubs never get going due to high crime rates in the areas. Naturally in other areas where crime is less, such clubs are more possible. Since your in Michigan, your close enough to Chicago to know that people around there don't even share to much info with the next door neighbor.
Sounds interesting. I'd like to see how many others respond to this, but it is a nice idea. stainless
I give it a maybe. I'd think about it. Just Carl: I think the $30 is for the whole club, not per member. So, you'd be talking a couple of bucks a person. I'm not sure what all it includes, but I think it would allow the club members to borrow materials from the library, etc.
If that is the way it is, I am a definate yes if this goes through then. The $30 per person was the biggest drawback for me. PS: Would there be an age limit? I'd like to sign up the bro for this if possible. stainless
