Recently picked up my first Numistamp, it's a 1793 large cent wreath design made in 1978. About 2" across & 1" tall, the base metal is brass and it is plated with copper. I just recently learned about these and I think they are really neat! There is one of every type of coin minted by the US from 1793 - 1980. Designer Mort Reed started the series with the idea in mind that it was nearly impossible to obtain a comprehensive collection of all types of US coins and these Numistamps would provide an interesting/fairly inexpensive way to obtain these designs for their collections, they didn't really take off the way he wanted but they are still really cool in my opinion. Post your numistamps!
The 70's, looking back, were actually pretty darn creative numismatically. I know of tons of good books written then, and lots of interesting ephemera like this too. I guess it wasn't all bad dancing and gawdawful clothes. I still have a picture of me in rust colored corduroy bell bottoms, wide colored shirt, and fugly sweater (worn unironically) my mother dressed me in when I was 8. I never forgave her.....
Which ones do you have? This is my first one but I'm going to try to pick up the rest of the Large Cent ones at least, possibly some of the others as well, they are very well done!
My dad has a picture like that of when he was a kid lol, his oldest sister made him a very lovely forest green, purple and yellow argyle sweater for Christmas one year... he didn't look to happy about it
