I just got notified that my latest batch is on its way back from NGC. There are the normal hits and misses and 1 that I am really stoked about. #1 German States Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1613 Thaler MS61 #2 German States Saxony 1630 Thaler AU55 #3 German States Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1765 Thaler MS62+ Subject: Segen Gottes Mine This is the one I am pretty stoked about. I purchased this from Karl Stephens and I knew that when he described it as AU+ Prooflike it would be a winner. #4 Scotland Ryal 1565 (1578) XF Details (counterstamp) I think the details grade is for the H on the reverse. Hopefully, at some point, I can track down the source. #5 Scotland 30 Shillings (1637-42) F15 #6 Scotland 40 Shillings 1693 VF25 #7 Sweden 8 Mark 1693 XF Details (Rev Tooled) #8 Hungary Thaler 1641KB No Grade (altered surface) ouch I don't see what they see. This one kind of stung because I had to pay for the oversized holder and grading.
Great set of coins. I'll soon be sending in my first batch of coins to get graded and slabbed soon, and I'm pretty nervous about the whole thing. Seeing this though is nudging me a little closer to putting the package together and sending it off.
Congratulations Chris! I am partial to the nice originality of #1 and #3. I think you scored a huge win on the mining taler. I will be curious to hear what comes of the Ryal; those are wonderful issues.
That was the only thing that concerned me about the Hungarian Thaler. I took it as a weak strike but I can see how it wouldn't be.
It looks even nicer but is tough to get a nice photo of. I don't think NGC even did a good job with the image and I usually like their images.
Oooh, that 1693 shilling! My son is going to start at William & Mary this fall and I would love to get a 1693 dated W&M coin for my 'box of 20'--the random coins that I can't part with but don't fit my 'official' interests. Course, it's closer to 100 and really any of those coins you posted could fit in that 'box'.
