I just joined today, so excuse me if I didn't do something right. I have 3 favorite coins of mine, and I wanted to know what they are worth and what the grades are

    I have:

    1923 Peace Dollar
    1921 D Morgan Dollar
    1933 Wheat Penny

    I WILL post pictures...

Once someone tells me how. I click "add images" but I have to do a link.... how do I upload it from a file on my PC?

All three are very common dates. Pics will do wonders but overall the silver dollars are about $25+ Penny, maybe $2.

Do you mean 25 each? or 25 together?

It really all depends on condition. Each of the silver dollars could be worth from $15 to thousands.

Pictures would be needed to really say anything.

The link below should lead you on how to post pics. Is it a Canadian half cent? Maybe it's worth a dollar but if you place it on ebay anything goes. You may get $5 and you may get more. :hail:

Scroll down to near the bottom of the page... You mean to tell me you don't have a post reply button? It should be right under the last post posted to the thread! To the lefthand side.

Even if uncirculated, your dollars are so common that they are worth little, if anything, above melt value. As someone above indicated, current melt on silver dollars is about $12.50 per dollar (12.5 X face value), so the two dollars are worth about $25 together. In my opinion, unless that 1933 cent is a gorgeous uncirculated, you'd be lucky to get a buck or two for it.

I'll stick with my original post. It all depends on condition. Go to Heritage and see for yourself. There are plenty of 1921 Morgan's that sold for over a grand. Several over 10 grand.

You're factually correct, but what are the probabilities that one of these common dates would grade at MS-67 or 68, i.e., high enough to be a contender for "finest known?"

Being a ruthless realist, the odds are infinitesimal, approaching zero asymptotically.

P.S.--Thanks for the new title! ;)

    EXACTLY!
Most of the ones that people have are no better than a 63, but most are in that VF-AU range, worth a little more than melt, depending on the date of course ;)

But you can't tell someone their coin is only worth 12 bucks sight unseen. Even at MS63 it's worth about $65.

furham, you seem like a nice person, and it is not my desire to be contentious. And it was not my intent to tell anyone what their coin is worth, sight unseen. You're right about that, too. What I was trying to do was set a reasonable range of expectations.

But I'll tell you what. Go out and get $65 for a raw coin of either of the dates mentioned in the original post. Choose one that you think it grades MS-64 if you want. Prove that you've gotten $65, and I'll eat my words and your hat!

Either of those dates, even in a high MS grade will not get much more than melt from a dealer, and given the softness of the Morgan market even on EBay now, one would be unlikely to get much more than melt there.

The "real market" is running lower than any of the price guides, at the moment. It's much lower than a "retail" guide like CoinValues (Trends), and it's even somewhat lower, at the moment, than a wholesale guide like the Grey Sheet. It's way lower than guides like PCGS or Numismedia.

I don't know where you got that $65 figure from, and honestly, I don't much care. My observations come from having an inventory well in excess of 200 Morgan dollars, going to coin shows and talking to lots and lots of dealers who specialize in Morgans, including VAMs, and following EBay closely.

P.S.--The Heritage archive prices are only valid for extremely high-grade coins, typically slabbed either by PCGS or NGC. If the original poster had one of those, don't you think he probably would have mentioned it? Instead, when speaking of the grade, he told us the grade the seller used when selling it.
