I was roll searching at banks today and was offered a couple of dollar coin rolls during my search for halfs. I picked up a roll each of Taylor, Tyler, and Van Buren dollars. I had originally thought that only the Sacagewea dollars were offered from the mint in circulated condition for face value, but in looking tonight the mint also offers these for face value on the presidential dollars. Is there any way to tell that the rolls I have are uncirculated or do they stand as much a chance being circulated? Thanks, Christian
I dunno...Ill just throw this out there. Can you not tell by the type of rolls they are packaged in? Paper, plastic, printing on the paper roll...etc.
I purchased rolls from the bank in their first year of offering. If the bank roll said the president's name on it (eg. George Washington), it was uncirculated. I assume a similar situation with the 2008 and 2009 presidential rolls. I've only bought a couple of the 2009 and directly from the mint.
All the Presidential dollars are still being released to the banks for circulation, but the Sacagaweas haven't been offered for circulation since 2001. Chances are the Presidents are circulated unless they are in a mint roll.
In white paper with the president's name, it is uncirculated. The 2009 Sac $'s can also be found at banks....they are being circulated in other words. If those are found in a roll with Native American on the side, uncirculated.
Thanks. Ya, these are in white rolls with red stripes on the end and they each have the Presidents name on them. They aren't US Mint collector rolls, so I guess these are how they are released for circulation. I figured they would be uncirculated because I doubted they were being resorted by President for re-rolling, but I just wanted to be sure. Hey, same train of thought... do the quarter rolls released for circulation, but still uncirculated, come in rolls that say what design they are? Guam, etc? Cheers.
regarding ths presidential rolls bought in the direct ship program from the mint. Is there anyway to tell if they are P or D without opening the roll? Is it possible there are P and D in the same roll? Different things I have read make it sound like if you buy them by the box you will or may get P and D mixed. I assume that means some P rolls and Some D rolls, but are they designated on the rolls?
If I were you I wouldn't worry about any of those being circulated coins. No one I know uses them, accepts them, banks around me can't get rid of them, stores around me don't want them and our commuter train conductors tell people to PLEASE don't give me those.
