The paper is extremely thin. It’s well worn and has several holes, which are not uncommon. They are pin holes. It is a Blue Back Note from April 1862. It also has a red revenue stamp dated SEPT’R 1863 on the right obverse. The 2 cuts on the bill is not damage but a form known as Cut-cancelled. The reverse of the bill is considered fancy. A lot of CSA Notes did not have printed backs. This is a Litho by Evans and Cogswell. It’s also a 2nd Series.
This note in this condition can easily be had for under $50.00. Without the pin holes a bit more and without the cut cancellation even higher. I got a good deal on it and I didn’t have this type of cancellation.
This bill was well used and it circulated a lot. I counted 20 pin holes and stopped as there were more. It was common for them to be spend, then pinned to a wall.
It's beautiful! I've been wanting to add some affordable Confederate notes to my collection for quite some time now. Any recommendations of a good/reputable place to purchase from?
I looked at AMPEX.com and greatamericancoincompany.com Their prices aren't bad. Since my collection consists of mostly circulated coins with a few exceptions, buying from companies online has it's concerns, for sure. Obviously, just like everyone, I don't want to get ripped off.
hey @Collecting Nut, what a piece of History! the art work on the currency is just beautiful. great job adding this to your collection. good luck to ya
