I'm new to coin collecting, just recently taking up the hobby. Any help naming the errors or varieties on this coin from people with more knowledge than me is greatly appreciated! I see some sort of doubling going on on the obverse of this coin but, mostly I see it on the reverse.
MD machine doubling not the type that is valuable but I say keep the quarter anyway its a tuskegee airman one.
The raised lettering is Die Deterioration doubling And the Incused lettering is Mechanical doubling. All common worthless doubling that have absolutely nothing to do with true Doubled Die varieties.
Hmm. I just came here for directions . Do you know where the restroom is . Oh, by the way, I agree with @paddyman98 , always .
This coin has two types of doubling, DDD and MD. Both fall in the category of NAV or no added value doubling. Welcome to CT.
Welcome to CT @JDouglas. You've come to the right place to learn about coins, IMO. As @Collecting Nut has stated so well, your coin is the best (worst) example of what can happen to a coin. The volume and speed which are modern coins are minted, makes quality control difficult. I am assuming you have noted resources, like error-ref and Wexler's site to check. If not, you should add them. Good luck.
Oh, I forgot my usual nag; Full Image photos. Here is my usual post: For the best results, you should post "in focus," FULL IMAGE photos (after you upload your photo, two buttons appear: Thumbnail and Full Image, click Full Image and your photo appears full size on your post and are easily enlarged by clicking on it). Photograph coins on neutral backgrounds like black, grey, or white. Crop out superfluous background so just the coin shows (you can use https://www.remove.bg for free), and post photos with correct orientation so members don't have to turn their computer in some awkward fashion to view it properly. While it isn’t always necessary, it is nice to show both the obverse and reverse, even if your question is just about one side. Members can often give more valuable information having both sides to evaluate. Add close ups of areas you have questions about and make your questions as definitive as possible so we know what you are asking for. And try to have the best lighting possible to show the most favorable photo of the coin. Hope this helps in the future. Good luck.
