I've been looking for a 1909-S VDB cent for a long time. I saw this one on ebay but the S is very difficult to see. The seller does discuss this difficult to see S in the description. The V.D.B. is also a little difficult to see but that is more common than the invisible S. What are your thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-S-VDB-LINC...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item27ad521030
It's a tough coin to buy without seeing it in hand. I am tempted to recommend against this one, because it very hard to authenticate and grade by pictures. This link is to a post thread on the 1909 S VDB hope it helps. http://www.cointalk.com/t78043/
Well, it looks legit to me, but that sure has seen some rough times. If you ask me, I would probably save some more money and hold out for a solid, no problem G-VG.
you def. can see the S and VDB, not too clear though. I'd say this is a fairly decent price for the condition. If you don't care about the wear on it, then pick it up!
Yes, I read this post and it was a good one. What do you think about the N on the reverse? It doesn't have the thicker N.
The N on the eBay coin for sale just doesn't match up to those on known authentic S VDB's. That would be a strong concern for me, enough to make me keep looking. Just my thoughts Phil.
That could just be some corrosion that sort of looks like an s. If you look around the corroded field you can find other places that look kind of like an s. With a no return policy I'd say pass.
I too think something is wrong with this one. That place where an S should be almost looks like something was hit there to make it appear as if an S was there. So far 11 bids? I'd pass.
I'm baffled on why people would bid this one up to $305 with 10 hours left. I guess they aren't members of this site. Should I ask a question to the seller about the N?
I doubt it would do any good, the bidders are gambling. And without a return policy, yes, a bidder can always file a case with eBay, why take the risk?
I wouldn't bid on this piece of junk. I was just thinking about asking the question to the seller. It appears like a fake to me and I'd hate to see someone get ripped off.
Ok, I've asked the seller to post a picture of the "N" in the United States. It has now reached $350 with 7 hours left.
Why would you ever buy an expensive key date coin that is not slabbed? Especially one that might be a 'problem' coin? That's what we're here for....
If I had as many wuestions concerning a coin as you do with this one I would have to or at least try to pass on it. They are not that hard to find I see them for sale all the time and (JMHO) I think in the long run you be better served by your gut than your eyes on this one.
Don't like it... It might very well be good... but I'm not a gambler... and anyone who buys this coin is definitely gambling...
Sorry first my post wasn't a little more clear. I don't think there is enough there from those pictures to determine if it's good or not.
I'm with you LD. It is very difficult to tell from the photos. It feels like a fake but I can't really tell. Thus, I'm asking for a close up on the "N". Even if it is genuine, I'm not going to bid on it.
