Wow. I had never heard of that pattern. Very cool story. Here's the link: https://coins.ha.com/itm/patterns/1...27-unique-vf25-pcgs-pcgs-11049-/a/1329-4190.s
I stumbled across this, like many other pieces of historical significance, earlier in the week while looking for Seated dimes. On another forum I speculated a closing of $525,000, although it had a pre-auction estimate of $250,000-300,000, based on a few other similar caliber coins which sold earlier in the year well over the estimates. The Brasher for one. Anyhow, at just under triple the high estimate this one stunned me. Primarily, when combined with other recent sales, for all appearance the market is in a boom period. For how long, and how much higher, only time will tell. But, wow! What a coin.
Yes, an incredible and significant coin to be sure. Environmental damage details grades on old copper are specially reserved for us plebs.
