OK, I keep seeing post about how the international coins are a better design than the American coins. I don't necessarily disagree. I searched this forum to see if anyone has asked this and I did not see anything pop up so I will. Please post your favorite or near favorite coin design. It has nothing to do with rarity or value, just you your favorite and maybe say why. I will start. This is a 1910, 20 Centesimi (Italy). I like it because it just looks old, has a neat and unique design, also looks egyptian. Just something you would not normally see.
I have yet to decide on a coin design as a favorite! There are just so many interesting unique designs throughout history...probably over a million...I can't decide. I know for US Coins it's the Saint Gaudens double eagle, a coin I shall never own. But a great design none the less.
I have too many designs I like. The one in my avatar is a brazilian 1000 reis coin that is one of my favorites. Also very fond of the Peace Dollar design. Your Italian coin is nice, might have to pick one up myself.
The full figure on your coin reminded me of The River, (1943) by Aristide Maillol (French, 1861-1944) at the MoMA in NYC.
I like this French coin. They have used this design in the 19th, 20th and 21st century. This one is from 1915. Here is my favorite reverse off a 20th century Italian coin. Traci :high5:
The Flying Eagle Cent, second the Large Cents because of their size and being copper those are pretty cool. Also that squirrel coin Billy has for an avetar is pretty neat aswell I got to get one of those.
Walking Liberties are my favorite, probably, but I like this a lot, as well: I've been trying to find a picture of the 1907 Indian Head Double Eagle pattern coin, but I can't. The design was never used, and only one specimen exists, but I love it. It's on page 357 of the 2010 Red Book, with a beautiful picture. Joe
It's difficult to say since there are so many beautiful designs. I can't nail down one favorite Obverse, but here is a list of my top four reverses: The Silver Eagle, the 2008 Eagle Commemorative reverse (my favorite Heraldic Eagle), Wheat cent reverse and the 2005 Marine Corps commemorative reverse.
peace dollars are my fave design, followed by walking liberty halves. two very beautiful coins. i wish the us would go back to designs like that.
