When I was at the SF Coin show recently, I met Rick Snow, among other friends of CoinTalk. I had with me my Anacs graded 1857 FE Snow 22 coin that I had sent to Rick a few years ago for attribution and maybe an Eagle Eye Photoseal. It had been in an older Anacs holder and I told him to crack it out so he could study it and photogragh it. He returned it to me and stated that it was a new Snow variety attributed to me. That really pleased me to no end just to know I'd have my coin in Ricks book with the attribution going to me. So, I show it to Rick and he says he got a page added to the Attribution guide and he'd email it to me when he gets back to Arizona. So I emailed him recently and he answered me with this photo of my coin. I have been looking for anyone who has a coin similar to mine, another S 22, and haven't been able to find one like it, Has anyone seen one like this, with the repaired OF and weak denticles? No matter how many are out there I'm proud to have this FE, Snow 22 attributed to me. :kewl: Bruce
Neat story & thanks for sharing. None of my examples show this feature. Have you checked Heritage auction archives?
Yes, and I've had an ebay thing looking out for it if anyone put one up for sale. I first mentioned it in the Fly-In Club Forum and of course one guy says "Oh, yeah I saw one like that last week. He could not come up with any more details. Personally, I felt he was just full of IT. Bruce
Years ago at a flea market I looked at one and thought it was just damaged. How wrong I was. Can't remember the exact grade, vg-f I think...
Dude ! That's quite an honor ! :thumb: Most of us will go many years without a "discovery coin" like that. Congrats ! :high5:
Really nice coin there. Congradulations on that one. And as for people saying "I saw one just like that" or "Those are common" or things like that. People, for some reason will always do that. If you bought a Batmobile Auto for $1 someone would pop up with I saw one for sale for $0.50. If you purchased the Empire State Building for $10, someone would say they saw one for sale for $5. Just human nature.
I have already told how much I like that FE, and I don't even know what an attribution is. I will say it again I think the Flying Eagle is the most beautiful coin out there (JMHO) and yours is one of the nicest when you get tired of it send me a PM I can't afford it, but I could cry and that one got away LOL. Nice story great coin. Kent
To me,an attribution is when someone finds a coin that has a unique die variety that has not been discovered, published and accepted in the coin world by the experts. Like a VAM for Morgan and Peace dollars. Or, as in my case a new Snow variety that has not been recognized before. So far, for the 1857 Flying Eagle cent there are 22 die varieties known to the experts, Rick Snow for one. Bruce
