So, what are you going to do with your coins in years to come? Sit on them and forget? Sell them for what you hope to be a profit?

I'm just starting to think about my exit strategy just so I have a plan in place which I think is a good idea to have..

Of course there are quite a few coins in my collection that I will save for 50+ years god willing, but a lot of the cardboarded stuff will probably get sold if i start selling at shows or more heavily online soon like I intend.

Sell numismatic material....buy bullion....sell out to the refinery the day I stop collecting...or breathing. If I stop breathing, the Mrs has the address to the Refinery. She won't need to gain an education in numismatics to divest herself of my holdings.

Mine changes day to day but the family understands it well enough to deal with it when the time comes. Folks need to keep this in mind. You do need a plan.

I am 100% collector. Never plan to sell unless I think none of the kids or gran kids wants the collection. My stuff pales in comparison to a lot of the CT members, but to me its worth something. Just like many of us I got these coins from my dad who got some from his dad. Now I am putting some serious money back in to the childhood hobby. I am not considering any kind of exit stragey at this point.

Absolutely, we can't just be short term for the moment with our coins I believe..

That's why I already have a game plan, will, all that mapped out for my future and I'm 24.

Exit implies "getting out". I have no intentions of leaving the hobby. I'm a collector, and as such, leave the investing aspects to the speculators and other "turn around" types....

Oh, well it doesn't mean leaving the hobby. Just when you will get out of your coins. meaning sell them or some.

I sit on them and look at them often, one of the joys I have of with the hobby. Every so often ill sell a coin I dont care for and use that money to get a coin I really want.

I think I'd like to sell some of my junk on Ebay and put that money into areas that will pop up. It is funny, sometimes things come along that you just know will pop up (like the reverse proofs or Buffalo dollars or the unc spouses).

I don't have an exit strategy, per-se. I don't plan on selling my coins en-masse.

I have, however, specific plans to dispose of my collection in the case I pass away unexpectedly.

I don't have an exit strategy. I do this for the pure joy of the hobby. I have sold some coins in the past but that was because I upgraded to nicer examples. If I was in this for profit, I would only have bullion.

No exit strategy for me. Just going to watch them - maybe if I get to be as old as doug I might sell some of them. Right now I will just watch my collection grow.

I have sold off some of my nicer coins recently for bullion and to pay life/business expenses. My personal exit strategy involves planning for a dissolution of the USA as we know it how that would impact the bullion and numismatic market. I have sold coins and lost money, but lost a lot less than had I cashed in some IRA's

I don't have any intention of ever getting rid of any part of my collection. I suppose someday when I'm too old and frail to collect or care, I'll hand the collection off to a grandkid or great grandkid or someone and call it good.

    Gonna getcha for that :hammer:

Collector, investor or speculator - everybody, and I do mean everybody, should sell some coins from time to time. There is nothing that exist that will teach you more about buying coins than selling them will.

Those who refuse to sell coins from time to time are making a huge mistake.

    Agreed. Big time.

Enjoy yourself, and do for others what you would have them do for you. Ain't hard.

"Exit strategy" is an investment term, not a numismatic (or other collecting) term.

This thread belongs in the Bullion forum where the coin collectors among us can more easily ignore it!!!!!!!!

With Ebay it is a lot easier. It puts the seller more in charge as opposed to going to a shop.
