I am wondering about the scum out there that may be watching some of our conversations and trying to take advantage of the open and honest conversation going on. I guess I just wanted to start a thread on this to see if anyone has anything to say. Lessons learnerd kind of thing.
Great post, something i have thought about many times. In addition, be careful what you post on other forums using the same user id, email, etc. You dont want a google search of your CT user id to yield any sensitive information you thought was safe elsewhere.
Last year I had my collection posted on the Web.. I had started to receive random emails linked to the site in which the notes were shown. Things like hey, we have the same collecting interest's lets get together and compare collections...or I need to come over to your place and show you this very rare note, what is your address... That got a little scary so I took my collection down and now will only post images here... as long as there is no email links you are prety safe as long as you keep that in mind. Beside..I would never keep anything in my house..every note is scanned and on my computer (well most every note) and I only make a few trips to the SDB per month. RickieB
When it comes to your collection being stolen, you have far more to fear from family members and people who know you than you do from anyone on the internet.
Three times in 7 days that we agree. The world may be about to end. Hey, perhaps the Mayans were correct!
I think CoinTalk stopped doing it, but on those forums where they show the number of "members" and number of "lurkers", there are dozens if not hundreds more lurkers at any time. On the other hand, you read some wacky stuff on forums that is passed off as "the truth". So if you're just doing a drive-by on a given forum, it could be dangerous taking some "senior member's" advice
I would believe truth be known, many more collectors have lost items to light fingered family members than outsiders.
I went and edited some of my profiles, some wack job (most know who I mean) was wanting my home address for who knows what.
He said he was a coin dealer and wanted to send me a list of what he had. He's used several usernames on this forum and thought he could fool me with the one he was using at the time.
If you have gold or jewlery or other valubles at home and family members on drugs, you will have problems, best hide in a safe place
What do you think his intentions were? I mean come find you or send something in the mail..tic tic tic?
