Nice ghosting effect, a beautiful effect. Looks plated though. Nice coin to have.

looks like a clash to me, the only question is if it's been reprocessed, or thats all original, I'm not sure if reprocessing would have covered up the clash or the PITD, I suppose it would but I don't know for sure, which would lead me to believe it's possibly just a well cared for, uncirculated. you should really inspect the edge for any sign of plating, or corrosion, under magnification and determine if it's reprocessed, or not.

if it's reprocessed, I don't see how it doesn't come back as altered surfaces. even if they give you the clash, the slabs gonna come back to that if it's reprocessed which would defeat the purpose of sending it in, you'd want to be fairly confident on if it's reprocessed or not before sending it in.

My father left my brother and I his "coin collection" which was just a collection of coins that he liked. However, there were about 300 1943 cents that we divided. I have 143 1943(P), 44 1943D, and 4 1943S. Any idea what would be the best way to go through them to see if there are any that might be "special". If so, are there any books or websites that could help?

no matter what you choose you have a fine coin. That Ghost image would make me want to grade and if nothing else sell it if you didn't like the grade (and get your money back) "they" gave it. win/win

there is ghosting, but this part here circled in red isn't ghosting. it's the back of lincolns neck.

@John Burgess exactly :D and I don't think it would show through that strongly on a reprocessed cent.. but it might.. I think I've decided to send it in come the 1st just to finaly know one way or the other lol

No, that's definitely a die clash.

Ok... thanks to an e-mail reminder I just got, anacs is still running the dollars and cents special (10 for $100 +additional fees over and above (ie varity/error id)) Until the 30th.. since it's "must be postmarked by the 30th" I think i gonna send them this one +error ID and 9-10 other mint state wheats I got kicking around in 2x2s... seems the cheapest and easiest way to get the answer I want with the added benefit of getting those other coins done also cheaply :D (have an Ike dollar or 2 i might also include lol) that way I won't get billed before the 1st and destroy my budget even further lol)

You can bet on it lol :D
will probably post the 10 i send on the day i send em out with a huge GTG... Might even add a prize for the most correct guesses lol (probably one of the very cents I send in) The only bad part about using anacs is that I can't use them for my registry set.. but then I don't intend too as already have those spots covered in NGC/PCGS slabs :D

I like the modern ANACS slabs that have that easy-to-see label, on the top edge, when they are in a box.
That is definitely a clash around the "C" of CENT.
I suspect this one will come back "Details" because of being reprocessed.

These cents need to grade a MS67 in order to be profitable.
If some of them are gradable then have at it. A processed cent is not worth the trouble.

    Note: old thread alert

Not worth anywhere near your estimate because it's been reprocessed/replated. Look at the edge pics.

Do you think it hasn't been replated? What are you seeing that other pots have missed?

I don’t know much but I do like the ghosting idea. Who ever said that first
